I designed my first book cover! The story is set in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and features three young men who are in the DRC militia and find themselves in a web of betrayal and death. Keep reading to see my process to this final product.
A color refresh, a new army man and some late nights on Illustrator, I landed with these final options for my client.
Note: The client went through a few title changes.
In these first iterations, I thought to emphasize the toy army figures, that are a common theme within the novel. However, I felt the army men did not reflect the culture of which the book was set, so I spent more time researching the DROC’s army uniform and reconsidering the color palette to reflection the country’s flag colors.
